About this deal

The Hydra Cup is one of my favorite protein shakers thanks to pure functionality. That split-compartment design is fantastic for towing around more than one liquid at once, saving time as you transition from pre- to post-workout supplements. The lid snaps down securely on all four sides to seal up the gaskets, ensuring that all liquids (or solids) stay where they should.

Inside Shaker communities, simplicity and hard work reigned. Labor and craftsmanship were seen as ways to worship God, and Shakers became known for producing high-quality furniture, food and household goods. Despite their celibacy, they had plenty of help. Shakers often raised orphans until adulthood. In addition, some people came into and left the community on a temporary basis, spawning the term “Winter Shakers” to describe those taken in by Shakers in exchange for their labor during the harsh New England winters. Of the cheaper shakers, Capilungo was most impressed by this stainless steel cobbler from Waitrose. Most protein shakers aren’t meant to handle hot liquids, but the Homiguar Shaker Bottle can. Thanks to the durable 18/8 stainless steel insulation, this bad boy can keep cold drinks chilled for up to 20 hours, and warm drinks warm for up to 8. (In my testing, these claims hold up.) This shaker has a 20-ounce capacity, but there’s a measurement line inside that goes up to 18 ounces. When Sister Frances Carr died at age 89 earlier this week, she reduced the number of Shakers in the last active community of its kind to two. The Shaker village at Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester, Maine, has been in operation since 1783, when it was founded by a group of Shaker missionaries. The United Society of Believers sect had already existed since 1747. It was created by a group of English Quakers and exiled Camisard Protestants who had unsuccessfully fought for their religious freedoms in France before fleeing to England. The sect became known for their ecstatic worship—ceremonies that included trembling, shaking, and what one historian calls “frenzied screeching and whirling.” The name Shaker grew out of the group’s reputation as “Shaking Quakers” known for that physical worship, and Shakers shook up the religious establishment by including things like spiritualism and frenetic dances in their worship.

These shakers tend to show every drip of liquid, so if that bugs you, our tester had a suggestion: Buy a microfiber towel to dry them off with, which will help keep them nice and shiny. Ultimately, our testers felt these shakers were heavy, well-made, and worth the price. One way to prolong the life of your shakers is to avoid letting them sit in the dishwasher overnight (the steam will corrode the finish or plating) and wash them by hand to keep the finish looking new. If you work in a high-volume bar or if you’ve got a bad case of butterfingers, avoid glass shakers. This protein shaker is split in half (15 ounces on either side), allowing you to store two completely different liquids in two completely separate compartments. It’s a unique design that adds some extra versatility to your gym bag. For the home enthusiast, I am also loving the design and construction of the Coley shaker,” says Escalante. “[It will] get the job done while also bringing some style to your home bar.”

This version is made by Italian kitchenware experts Alessi (and designed by esteemed architect Ettore Sottsass) whose products are always stylish; this shaker is no different. As glass tends to be heavy, it has a weighty, sturdy feel to it. Though it looks like a pint glass, Boston shakers tend to be made with tempered glass, providing a bit more strength (as you might imagine, accidents are common in mixology, and glass can break). Tom Levron, formerly a bartender at The Beekeeper Bar in Carlsbad, Calif., likes the brand's Boston shakers, in particular. “These shakers are welded all around and not just in three spots like most shakers, which means they are stronger and will last longer. Also, they are priced competitively with other high-end shakers.” Another thing to look out for is the size of the shaker. Most protein shakers hold between 16 and 36 ounces of liquid, leaving enough extra space inside to dissolve that workout mix or protein powder with whatever bartending flair you have on hand. Finally, some shakers will offer superior blending ability to others thanks to their shape, contours in the lid and circular wire whisks which can lend your shakes a lighter, frothier mouth feel. At the most advanced and slightly pricier end, you'll find built-in blender capabilities that'll do a far more reliable job than the tired shake of your biceps. What are the best protein shakers to buy?

Having never used one before, I asked Capilungo to show me the ropes. The good news is that it's not that hard at all. Of course, you'll have to play around with your ratios, but ultimately – though there are myriad shaking techniques – you just need to make sure all the ingredients are blended together perfectly before pouring. There are three main types of shakers: Boston, Parisian and cobbler (or three piece). Boston shakers essentially consist of a glass and a tin (or just two tins). A cobbler shaker has three elements: a tin base, a built-in strainer, and a lid. The Parisian, common in homes, is similar to the Boston in that it has two parts – in this case a large metal tin and a lid (but they tend to be harder to separate). If you plan to consume a protein shake before exercise, it could help fuel workouts and aid protein synthesis. In this case, consume 60-90 minutes before exercise.Either way, taking protein and carbs after a long effort has been found to promote recovery and help muscles rebuild. More from Tom's Guide Once you’ve established that your protein shaker can serve the basic purpose of shaking up your protein, there are some other useful features to look out for to ensure it's with a place in your gym routine. Bostons can, however, be difficult to separate after shaking, due to the vacuum effect. Squeeze the shaker at the top to break the seal, or give it a little bash, and you should be able to remove it.Model 2002E is well suited for structural testing as well as a variety of general vibration testing applications particularly in confined locations. The 2002E is available along with a miniature amplifier and accessories as part of theInertial Shaker System K2002E01, allowing you to power your test easily. Combine the system with a PCB Model 288D01 Impedance Head or a Model 208C01 Force Sensor to create a compact force generator for driving point modal excitation or general purpose vibration excitation.
