About this deal

Jovis initially declines the offer, but Ramani says she knows something about a ship with blue sails, which Jovis knows is the ship that took his wife. As he is swept into this activity, ostensibly for the money lost in the island disaster rather than altruism, he discovers that since partnering with the fast-growing Mephi, he has developed super-human strength, which he uses against the imperial forces now hunting him with even greater intent than when he was a mere smuggler. Cobbled together from the parts of various animals, these constructs are powered by human skull shards, which every child in the empire must provide.

The Bone Shard Daughter begins with a spark of intrigue that ignites into a thrilling adventure you cannot miss - with a unique (and painful! I’ve struggled to get back into reading and this did more than transport me to another world, it reignited my LOVE of reading. p>Read about how we’ll protect and use your data in our Privacy Notice.

They figure out that they all arrived on the island on a ship with blue sails, whose captain is the only one who knows how to make it through the dangerous reefs into the harbor.

There is no shortage of things to be impressed by here, but the book’s main strength to me lies in the voices the author gives her characters. This also came as a surprise to me, because as you could tell from my tagline, a list of what Bone Shard Daughter isn’t is quite short. Going into the sequels I hope to find out what is the mechanism of the floating islands, and is Mephi’s species involved? To create such distinct characters in a multi-voiced narrative is no easy feat, but Stewart genuinely makes it look effortless. Here is a spoiler summary of what happened in The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart to help refresh your memory before you read the sequel. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. As Lin discovers the secrets behind her father's power, she is shocked by his actions and becomes determined to gain the throne and change things for the better. I admit that the first few chapters are a little confusing and it was harder to get into the story, but after the 20% mark, things get more exciting and the characters slowly start to interact with each other, creating one complex storyline instead of 4 different stories. I would definitely recommend this book to any readers who are seeking to dip their toes in adult fantasy but might be intimidated by the genre; the prose is beautiful not in a dense, flowery way but a simple, subtly captivating way.

Along the way, the novel also brings up head-spinning ideas about power (how it can be a double-edged sword, something to be yearned for as well as distrusted) and identity and how our personal histories can both build us up and trap us, and leaves you with plenty to pore over long after you turn the last page.I just love when, after reading about the characters through different POVs, they finally cross paths!
